Took a cruise to eastern Canada on Holland America.
First stop, Montreal. We had poutine.
Second, Quebec City. Took the funicular up to the higher level. It's a 10 minute walk from the port. The funicular cost $1.75 per person. It's sort of worth it especially if you're tired. It's less worth it going back down since it's easier to go down than up. Alternatively, there's a set of stairs called breakneck stairs and a 5-10 minute walk up to the second level.
At the second level, took pictures of the Chateau Frontanc, a nice looking hotel. Walked along Promenade des Gouverneurs, which offers some nice views of the river bank. Headed north and saw a few buildings: Maison Kent, Maison Jacquet, and Hotel d'Esplanade. There's some history. Maison Kent houses the consulate general of France, although it was the place where France signed a treaty to surrender to the British. Someone took a better picture than I did:
Hotel d'Esplanade has no windows because taxes were charged per window. Along the way, there's a cannonball lodged into the tree. It's not clear why, but it's interesting to see. Walked further to Hotel du Parlement. It was closed to tours since it was after Labor Day, but during summer, they offer tours. The building features several Canadian historical figures.
